December 30, 2000 COVINGTON
A new year is right around the corner but the Buccs are in the middle of a basketball season that is full of high expectations and ambitions. In the last game of the year 2000, the Buccs want to end the year on the right foot and take some momentum into 2001.
Fairlawn visited the Buccs and the Buccs greeted them with solid defense and a breakout game for Josh Burelison. Burelison was dead on accurate from the field. He only took 8 shots on the night but sank 6 of them, 3 from three-point land. He also went 3 for 4 from the line to lead the Buccs with 18 points and 7 assists.
Burelison and the Buccs jumped all over Fairlawn early. They sank 24 points in the period and held Fairlawn to 10 for a 14-point lead. Just when it appeared as though the Buccs were going to win in a blowout, Fairlawn gradually chipped away at the lead.
By the end of the third period, Fairlawn had cut the lead to 5 points. The Buccs rebounded in the fourth period to shake the fourth period woes. They outscored the Jets 20-16 to take a 9-point win, 65-56.
Along with Burelison's 18 points, Bert Roeth knocked down 17 points and Jarod Meyer sank 15. The Buccs only shot 40 percent from two-point land but was on fire from behind the arch, shooting 55 percent on 6 of 11 shooting.
The Buccs take a 6-3 record into 2001 against National Trail on January 5 at Covington High School.
