What a difference rest and six days to prepare makes. After falling to Miami East 64-49, the Buccs were able to get back in the gym and get into the flow of the schedule. The result was an impressive 73-63 win over Franklin Monroe.
Franklin Monroe jumped out to and early lead but the Buccs stayed close. At the end of the first period, the Jets held a narrow 1-point lead 17-16. The Buccs took control in the second period and took the lead going into halftime 28-23.
The Buccs were able to increase their lead in the third. As the scoring pace picked up, the Buccs stretched their lead to 10 going into the final period.
Both teams burned the nets in the fourth period. Each team took turns scoring baskets but the Buccs were able to maintain their double-digit lead. When all was said and done, the Buccs captured a 73-63 win to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
Three Buccaneers scored in double digits. Jason Meyer led the way with 17 points while Bert Roeth and Clint Mohler chipped in 15 and 11 respectively. Clint Mohler was also a force inside by grabbing a team high 10 rebounds.
On the night, the Buccs shot 57 percent from 2-point range and 82 percent from the foul-line. They did have a rough night from 3-point land converting only 1 out of 12 attempts.
Tomorrow night the Buccs entertain Anna at Covington High School.
