December 22, 2000 – NEWTON
Throughout the years, Newton and Covington have waged intense battles on the hardwood. When these two teams play you can throw out the records and expect a tough, back-and-fourth game.

Tonight's game between the Buccs and the Indians lived up to the battles of the past as both teams had their share of success and disappointments. When all was said and done, the Buccs escaped with a 50-41 win.

The Buccs' defense again was dominating. They held Newton to only 14 points in the first half. Newton is known to play a slow paced, half-court game and keep defensive pressure on their opponents. Their pressure kept the Buccs from pouring it on but the Buccs were able to take a 7-point lead into the half, 21-14.

Newton looked to take the momentum in the second half as they got their offensive on track and kept the pressure up on defense. Newton took a 2-point lead by the end of the third and had the Buccs on their heals.

The Buccs responded like champions in the fourth period as they dominated both ends of the floor. Led by Jason Meyer and Bert Roeth, the Buccs scorched Newton for 20 fourth quarter points to take the game 50-41 and improve to 4-2 on the season.

Both Jason Meyer and Bert Roeth dropped in 15 points for the Buccs while Jarod Meyer contributed with 10 points of his own. The Buccs again held the rebounding edge by pulling down 36 to Newton's 24.

Tomorrow night the Buccs host another longtime rival in the Bradford Railroaders.
