Sequels are rarely as good as the original. In the Buccs case, they hoped the sequel would be much better than the original. After all, the Buccs lost 79-67 to Russia earlier in the year so it couldn't get much worse. In that game, Russia outscored the Buccs by 14 points in the final period.
In the first period it appeared as if it could get worse for the Buccs. Russia began where they left off from their previous meeting with the Buccs by jumping out to an early 15-8 lead. The Buccs bounced back in the second period by going on a 16-6 run to take a 24-21 lead into halftime.
The third period was a defensive struggle. Both teams were unable to find the bottom of the net on a consistent basis. Russia cut the Buccs' lead to 33-31 by the end of the period.
The fourth quarter is where Russia makes their run, right. Not this time! The Buccs played solid defense and found their stroke. The Buccs dropped in 18 points in the period to take a 4-point win 51-48 and walk away with a Sectional Championship.
Jarod Meyer led the Buccs with 20 points with the other half of the Meyer duo, Jason, dropped in 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.
The Buccs improve to 18-4 and advance to the District Tournament against Cedarville at the University of Dayton on March 9.
