January 5, 2001 – COVINGTON
How good can they be? How far can they go?

The sky is the limit for the Buccs baketball team. After struggling through the early part of the season, it appears as if the Buccs are hitting their stride and in line to make a run at the CCC title.

National Trail came to town to tip off the new year and the Buccs threw a New Year's party for the hometown fans. Covington totally dominated the outgunned Trail Blazers for a 71-47 win to improve to 7-3 on the season.

The Buccs put Trail away early by taking a 21-4 lead at the end of the first. Trail bounced back in the second with 12 points but the Buccs increased their lead to 40-16 by halftime.

The third period was a total reverse from the first half. National Trail outscored the Buccs to cut into the lead 49-38. The Buccs finished strong in the fourth with a 22-9 run to take the game 71-47.

Jason Meyer found his stroke by knocking down 23 points to lead the Buccs. Bert Roeth chipped in 14 as 9 Buccaneer' players found the bottom of the net.

The Buccs host the West Milton Bulldogs tomorrow night.
