February 8, 2002 – ANSONIA
This time of year teams are trying to find their groove and gain momentum for the upcoming tournament. The best way to know if a team has hit their stride is to look at the overall balance of the team. Sure, it's nice to have a guy crank in 30 or 40 points but scoring balance is much more important because it shows that the team has depth and plays as a unit.

What better time for the Buccs to have a game like they did tonight. Four players scored in double digits and every player on the team found the bottom of the net. The Buccs showed they are a team, not just one or two individual players who carry the team on their shoulders. If the past three games are any indication of what lies ahead, the immediate future looks promising.

Ansonia celebrated senior's night and the Buccs crashed their party with a dominating 88-51 win. The Buccs jumped all over the Tigers from the outset. After a 3-3 ties early in the game, the Buccs scored 16 unanswered points to go up 19-3 near the end of the first. Ansonia managed to hit on two buckets in the last minute of the period but the Buccs still held a 21-7 lead.

The Tigers did manage to hold their own in the second. After the Buccs pushed their lead to 32-11, Ansonia outscored the Buccs 9-5 to close the gap to 37-20 at the half.

In the third, the Buccaneers put the game away. Covington went on another 16-0 run right off the bat to go up 53-20. The Buccs were hot from behind the 3-point line as they canned 4 of them in the period. As the third came to a close the Buccs built a 41-point lead, 70-29.

With the game well in hand, the Buccs sat their starters on the bench and mixed in various rotations for the fourth period. The result was less than stellar as the game became a little sloppy at times. Ansonia outscored the Buccs 22-15 in the fourth but it was too little, too late as the Buccs came out on top 88-51.

The Buccs finish out the season on the road against longtime rival, Bradford next Friday night.

Burelison's Revenge:
Josh Burelison played perhaps his best game of the season against the team that ended his season one year ago. Last season when these two teams met, Burelison was injured in a scary incident. Tonight, however, Josh erased the bad memories with a dominating performance. On the night Burelison knocked down 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting as well as dishing out 8 assists and picking up 3 steals. Burelison also moved into the 19th spot on the Buccs' career scoring list with 663 points.

Notes:
The Buccs shot 54 percent from 2-point range and 59 percent from behind the arch. "3-Point Al" Alex Hague canned 3 of 3 and Bert Roeth hit 2 of 2 from 3-point land. The Buccs outrebounded Ansonia 34-16 and created 10 turnovers.

CCC Update:
Bethel lost to Tri-County North and Twin Valley South lost to Tri-Village tonight. There is now a 5-way tie for the CCC title as 5 teams have an 8-2 record.
