Confidence is a wonderful thing to have but it is also fragile when you're facing the Covington Buccaneers in consecutive games. Last Friday night, the Bradford Railroaders had a big confidence boost from a 23-11 fourth quarter run against the Buccs which also included six 3-pointers. For the Roaders, it was something to built on for tonight's sectional match-up with the Buccs.
The Buccs destroyed any confidence the Railroaders had in only 4 minutes. Josh Burelison scored the game's first 9 points and only 4:00 minutes into the game, the Buccs had a 20-0 lead. Bradford scored their first points of the contest at the 4:20 mark of the game on a lay-up. By the end of the first period the Buccs held a 28-9 lead.
The Buccs continued their domination in the second with pressing defense which forced numerous turnovers that they converted into points. After a Bradford jumper that made the score 33-11, Jason Meyer went on a terror. Jason scored 9 points in the final 6:00 of the second to lead the Buccs to a 48-20 half-time lead.
Jason put the game out of reach in the third by scoring 11 of his game high 22 points. The Buccs outscored Bradford 19-8 in the third to take a commanding 67-32 lead.
With the game well in hand, Buccaneer coach, Roger Craft let everyone on the team see game action in the fourth. Bradford managed to take advantage by scoring 23 points but the Buccs were already savoring victory.
On the night for the Buccs 12 players put points on the board, led by Jason Meyer's 22 points and Jarod Meyer's 14 points.
Next the Buccs face the always tough Anna Rockets this Friday at 7:00 at Piqua High School. Anna benefited from a bye in the first round.
