JANUARY 26, 2010 - UNION CITY
After an offensive breakthrough last Friday against Newton, the Covington Buccaneers kept the momentum going in another critical Cross County Conference matchup at Mississinawa Valley.

And it was Jordy Meyer and Josh Boehringer who led the charge as the duo accounted for 40 of Covington's 57 points in the 57-40 victory. Both tied for a game-high 20 points each, while Meyer pulled down 9 rebound and Boehringer had 8.

Covington held just a 21-19 lead at the break, but erupted in the third quarter for 24 points to just 6 in the frame for the host Black Hawks. The double digit margin remained the rest of the way as Covington outscored Mississinwa 14-13 in the final frame to preserve the 17-point victory.

Points in the paint were a huge factor in the contest as Covington dominated 36-16 inside, while also holding a large advantage on the boards, 25-9.

The Buccs shot 61% from the floor (25-41) while only attempting four shots from behind the arc - making one attempt for 25%. Covington converted on just 6 of 14 free throws for 43%.

Mississinwa connected on 16 of 39 field goals for 41%, 2-for-12 from behind the arc (17%) and 6-for-12 from the free throw line (50%).

The turnovers battle was virtually even as Covington committed just 9 errors and Mississinawa had 10.

The victory pushes Covington's record to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Buccs host Franklin Monroe on Friday.
