Covington begins their 20th year in the Cross County Conference enthusiastically with a team, which has worked extremely hard over the off-season. The Covington Buccaneers enter the 2010-11 season coming off a 13-9 record & (9-3) in the Cross County Conference. The varsity team this year will have some experience, as five-letterman return for the Buccs.
The team will once again face some stiff competition in the CCC and like always will have a more than competitive non-league schedule. Covington travels to Versailles, Houston & Marion Local and the BUCCS will play in the WPTW Holiday Tourney to be held at Piqua High School. The Buccs also have tough non-league games at home against Anna, Milton and New Bremen.
The Buccaneers players on the varsity roster this season will be expected to provide the leadership necessary in order to challenge for the league title and be tournament ready.
Senior Josh Boehringer - (6’2) begins his fourth season of varsity basketball. Josh will bring the team athleticism in the post-position and he is versatile enough to step out on the perimeter.
Senior Eric Beckstedt - (6’0) begins his third full season of varsity action. He's a fine shooter and has improved his floor game through off-season repetitions.
Senior Martin Leistner - (5’10), will return at the point guard position and provide the necessary leadership in all areas. Martin returns for his second full season at the varsity level after a good season last year.
Senior Tyler Noffsinger - (5’8) will add quickness to this year’s line up and will be counted on for senior leadership.
Senior Jake Bitner is unable to participate this season, but will continue to provide leadership to players at all levels of the program.
Senior Kody Spade - (6’2) is a versatile player with a fine touch around the basket and from the perimeter. Kody will add depth to the 2010-11 varsity team.
The other returning letterman is Sophomore Cole Owens (6’5). Cole gained valuable experience last season at the varsity level and will give the Buccs a strong post presence.
Several more players including, Junior’s Isaiah Winston (5’9), Sam Earick (5’10) and Steven Blei (5’10) all played primarily at the reserve level last season and each will compete for varsity action during the course of the season. Dylan Owens (6’0), Troy Cron (5’6), Gabe Mohler (6’6), Alex Baskerville (6’0), Ryan Craft (6’0) & Trent Tobias (5’11) are all promising sophomores who could see some varsity action during the 2010-11 campaign. All of the players on this year’s team will provide the Buccs with plenty of effort and heart each and every contest.
The 2010-11 Buccaneer hoopsters enter this campaign with optimism and excitement. However, the Cross County Conference will provide some tough competition. Add to this the non-league foes, and you can see that the Buccs will have many challenges to overcome as they strive to continue the tradition of excellence.
