JANUARY 4, 2013 - WEST MILTON
It was the tale of two halves for the Covington Buccaneers in a 52-33 loss at Milton Union on Saturday as the Buccs played point-for-point with the Bulldogs in the first half, only to be outscored 33-14 in the second half.
And it was the Buccs' inability to take care of the basketball in the second half that turned the momentum as 12 of Covington's 13 turnovers came after halftime.
It led to a 19-4 scoring advantage for Milton in the third quarter and a 14-10 advantage in the final frame.
This, after the Buccs held a 12-11 advantage after one and went into the locker room tied 19-19.
And it wasn't Milton's second half defensive pressure and Covington's turnovers that was the only issue for the Buccs. Shooting six percent (1-15) from behind the arc and twenty-nine percent (13-45) from the floor didn't help matters either. The Buccs were also six of twelve from the free throw line.
Milton shot 37% from the floor (18-49), 17% from behind the arc (3-17) and 65% from the free throw line (13-20). The Bulldogs also did a much better job of taking care of the basketball as they only had six turnovers.
Covington held a slim 33-32 advantage on the boards and both teams recorded 13 offensive rebounds.
The Buccaneers were led in scoring by Tyler Henry, who was the lone Buccaneer in double figures with 14 points.
Covington drops to 2-7 on the season as it travels to Bethel next Friday in a huge Cross County Conference matchup.
