Another great year for the Covington Buccaneers basketball team which resulted in a 22-3 record. In perhaps the most successful season in school history, the Buccs captured the Miami County Holiday Tournament Championship, a Three Rivers Conference Championship, a Sectional Championship, and a District Championship. This is the Buccs fourth 20-win season and their third in the last 4 years.
Along the way the Buccs recorded key victories over Newton, Franklin Monroe, Tri Village, Arcanum, Versailles, Bradford, Bethel, Russia and Miami East. Their only losses in the regular season came at the hands of Houston and St. Henry. They also recorded impressive tournament wins over Tri Village, Cedarville, Arcanum and Mechanicsburg. Their season unfortunately came to an end to Cincinnati Summitt County Day in the Regional Tournament. The Buccs fell by the narrow score of 46-41 to the eventual State Runner-ups.
The Buccs were led by a trio of double digit scorers on the season. Ed Barger led the way with 17.3 points a game followed by Steve Simon who tallied 13.2 points per game. Rick Schmidt rounded out the trio with 11.0 points a game. Rick also pulled down 149 rebounds on the year to lead the Buccs.
