What a run the Buccs had in the 1982-83 season. The Buccs were 1 point away from reaching the State Finals at St. Johns Arena in Columbus. Instead they settled for a Regional Runner-up trophy, which is no small accomplishment considering the Buccs started four juniors.
The Buccs captured a Miami County Holiday Tournament Championship in late December. In January, Bucc victories snowballed until a late season slump. In the tournament, the Buccs started slowly winning close games against Mississinawa Valley and West Liberty-Salem. They followed that up with an overtime win over Russia.
Advancing to U.D. Arena in Dayton, the Buccs won the District Championship by hanging on to defeat Clinton-Massie by the score of 53-50. Then in the Regional Semi-Finals, the Buccs defeated Columbus Academy 50-47 in triple overtime. The dream of a trip to state and a crack at a state title came to an end as the Buccs fell to Yellow Springs 51-50 in the Regional Finals.
Despite the 1 point loss to Yellow Springs, the Buccs achieved more than anyone expected with a young team.
On the season for the Buccs, Todd Alexander led the way with 390 points on 50.2 percent shooting and 180 rebounds. Steve Dunn led the Buccs in assists with 61. Radar Graves was the Buccs' second leading scorer, rebounder and assist man with 277 points, 129 rebounds and 54 assists.
