The 1988-89 Buccs had a rough season going 8-13 on the year. That's what happens when a team looses the school's second all-time leading scorer and only returning two letterman.
The Buccs were at one point in the season 5-2 and looking like a team that would exceed all expectations. However, from January until the end of the season the Buccs could only manage 3 wins in 13 games. The disappointment of the '88-'89 season can be attributed to a lack of offense. The Buccs only managed to average 53 points per game while surrendering 62 points a game to their opponents. Their field goal percentage was down at 42 percent and they only shot 60 percent from the free throw line. These numbers translate into a 8-13 record, their first loosing season since the 5-14 team in '68-'69.
