January 8, 2003 – ANSONIA
If the Lady Buccs' 81-17 win over Ansonia tonight is any indication, the mid-season shooting slump has come and passed very quickly. At least that's what the Lady Buccs are hoping for.

After only scoring 38 points in a shocking loss to Russia two weeks ago and a scoreless first period at New Bremen last week, it was only a matter of time for the 10-1 Lady Buccs to erupt offensively. Unfortunately for the Lady Tigers of Ansonia, tonight was the night.

Covington controlled the game from the outset, jumping out to an 18-5 lead after 8:00 of play. Covington scored 24 more points in the second period and led 42-11 at the half.

The third period was total domination for the Lady Buccs as they did to Ansonia what New Bremen did to them by holding the Lady Tigers scoreless throughout an entire period. All the while, Covington continued burning the nets for a 23-0 advantage in the third to increase their lead to 65-11.

With the game well in hand, coach Besecker emptied his bench. Still, Covington outscored Ansonia 16-6 over the final 8:00 to take an 81-17 victory.

Ten Covington players scored for the Lady Buccs on the night. Michelle Meyer led all scorers with 25 points and MaryBeth Bayman while Heather Fields knocked down 11 and 10 respectively.

Covington improves to 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Cross County Conference. They host Bradford Saturday at Covington High School.
