November 27, 2004 – COVINGTON
For three quarters the Covington Lady Buccs appeared to be well on their way to a third straight win of the young season. The Versailles Lady Tigers had other ideas and outscored Covington 17-4 in the final 8:00 to steal a 50-42 win in Covington.

Trailing 38-33 to open the final period, Versailles went on a 12-0 run in 5:11 and held Covington scoreless in the fourth until a Michelle Meyer free throw with 2:49 left in the game. Covington's only basket in the fourth quarter was a lay-up by sophomore, Alex Christian with 1:22 left in the contest.

The Lady Buccs built a 14-12 lead by the end of the opening stanza as Michelle Meyer and Ashley Johnson found the hot hand.

Meyer connected on a jumper and a pair of free throws, while Johnson drilled two treys in the stanza.

The Lady Buccs pushed their lead to double-digits, 28-18 with 2:52 left in the half.

Again, it was Meyer and Johnson leading the way for 10 straight Covington points, including two more treys by Johnson.

Versailles, traditionally a very strong defensive team, battled back and outscored the Lady Buccs 9-2 over the final 2:00 of the half to cut the margin to 30-27 at the half.

The Lady Tigers picked up the defensive pressure in the third period as they held Covington to just 8 points in the stanza. Meanwhile, the Tiger offense found their own offensive output in difficulty as they only managed six third quarter points, giving Covington a 38-33 lead.

The Versailles defensive pressure took its toll and a tired Lady Buccs team couldn't buy a basket in the final 8:00. The Lady Tigers forced numerous turnovers, which resulted in easy baskets in transition during the 12-0 Tiger run.

Covington was led by Michelle Meyer with a game-high 18 points. Ashley Johnson contributed with 12 points, all coming in the first half on four buckets behind the 3-point line.

Versailles received balanced scoring with freshman, Justine Ratterman leading the way with 12 points, all coming in the first half. Lynnette Stauffer dropped in 11 points, six of those coming in the first 2:00 of the final period.

Covington drops to 2-1 on the season and travels to face CCC rival, Bethel Tuesday evening.
