January 12, 2006 — COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs opened up a 35-2 half time lead and cruised to a 57-27 win over rival Bradford, Thursday. The win improves Covington's record to 10-2 on the season and 5-0 in Cross County Conference play.

The Lady Buccs were hitting on all cylinders in the first half as Michelle Meyer, Andrea Meyer and Ashley Johnson combined for six treys in the half. Michelle Meyer also scored 18 of her game high in the half as well, twelve coming on four of Covington's six first half treys.

Meanwhile, the Lady Buccs' defense was a stingy as ever, holding Bradford to just one field goal in the half on a Angel Yount jumper midway through the opening period after Covington had already built a 9-0 lead.

Covington closed out the first stanza with a Johnson jumper and a trey by Michelle Meyer to take a 14-2 lead.

The Lady Buccs pitched a shutout in the second stanza by outscoring Bradford 21-0 in the period. Michelle Meyer canned two treys, while Johnson and Andrea Meyer both hit on three-pointers in the stanza.

Despite a rough first half, Bradford continued to battle as Yount opened the second half with a long range trey.

Andrea Meyer responded with her second three-pointer of the game before a free throw by Heather Selanders and a lay-up by Kristen Fike forced a Covington timeout with 6:53 left in the third.

Covington then ran off 13 straight points on three buckets by Alex Christian, a pair of baskets by Michelle Meyer and a third trey by Andrea Meyer.

The Lady Railroaders scored the final two buckets of the period to make the score 51-12 with 8:00 to play.

Bradford had its most profitable period in the fourth with 15 points. Ashley Laub and and Ashley Floyd started the period with back-to-back treys while Heather Selanders and Kristen Fike both scored buckets as well.

Five of Bradford's fourth period points came at the free throw line on 5 of 7 shooting from the charity stripe.

Covington's reserves contributed in the final period as Kristen Boggs and Renee Otte contributed with a pair of buckets to go along with a basket by Ashley Johnson.

Seven players reached the scoring column for the Lady Buccs with Michelle Meyer leading the way with a game-high 22 points. Andrea Meyer contributed with 11 points, while Chelsea Tebbe and Ashley Johnson both dropped in 7 points.

Bradford was led by Ashley Floyd with 7 points, all coming in the second half.

Covington looks to maintain its momentum with a key conference match-up at Arcanum on Saturday.
