December 20, 2005 – WEST MILTON
The Covington Lady Buccs traveled to Milton Union Tuesday in a non-conference match-up between two Miami County teams looking to extend winning records into the Holidays. A highly competitive contest was anticipated as the Lady Buccs came in with a 4-2 record, while Milton stood at 5-1.

However, in the end Covington had too many offensive weapons and a stingy defense to trouble Milton all evening, which resulted in a 60-34 Lady Bucc win.

Covington started out cold from the field in the opening minutes of the contest. The Lady Buccs missed their first six shots and didn't score a bucket until Chelsea Tebbe connected on a lay-up with 2:30 off the clock.

The Lady Buccs then scored on three straight possessions on a pair of baskets by Alex Christian and a short jumper by Michelle Meyer to take a 10-4 lead and force a Milton timeout with 4:44 left in the stanza.

The Lady Bulldogs responded with a long trey by Erin Searcey to cut the margin to 10-7, but Michelle Meyer ended any momentum by scoring two straight buckets to make the score 14-7 with until one minute left on the clock.

Searcey struck again before the first period ended on a lay-up to close the gap to 14-9.

Covington found the hot hand in the second stanza by scoring the first 11 points on the period.

Alex Christian started things off with a put-back and an Andrea Meyer jumper followed to extend the Covington lead to double digits, 19-9.

Christian then scored on a short jumper in the paint and Michelle Meyer canned a three-pointer and scored on a lay-up to extend the Lady Buccs' lead to 25-11 and force a Milton timeout with 4:10 left in the half.

The Lady Bulldogs finally stopped the bleeding with a lay-up by Jessica Hoblit with 2:45 left in the half, but Covington responded with baskets by Christian and Andrea Meyer on back-to-back possessions.

Looking for a spark before the half, the Lady Bulldogs received a trey by Taiya Martins to make the score 29-14, but Covington countered with three free throws to push its lead back to 18 points, 32-14.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the half with some momentum as Kaci Finfrock drove to the basket and scored on the lay-up to close the gap to 32-16 at the break.

Milton couldn't capitalize on any momentum gained as it only managed five points in the third period, four coming on buckets by Allison Fox.

Covington took advantage of the Lady Bulldogs' struggles by scoring 12 points in the stanza on a pair of buckets by Michelle Meyer, a jumper by Christian, and a basket and four free throws by Ashley Johnson.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to find their stroke in the final period by dropping in 13 points in the stanza.

But, it was all for naught as Covington scored 14 points in the final 8:00 and capped an impressive performance by an Andrea Meyer trey to make the final score 60-34.

Michelle Meyer led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Alex Christian had a solid night as well with 16 points.

Milton was led by Erin Searcey with 11 points, including one from behind the arc.

Covington improves to 5-2 on the season and travels to Tri-County North on Thursday.
