Thursday, December 1, 2005 COVINGTON
For eight minutes the Covington Lady Buccs found themselves in a tussle against a gritty Tri-Village team.
Led by Tina Allison, Tri-Village hung close as Covington had trouble containing the 6'0" sophomore center. Allison scored eight of her team high 17 points in the opening stanza and had the Lady Patriots within striking distance, 18-12.
But, Allison picked up her third foul early in the second period and was forced to the bench.
Covington took advantage by outscoring Tri-Village 15-2 in the stanza to open up a 33-14 half time lead. The lone basket by the Lady Patriots was a lay-up by Karli Dill off of a Covington turnover.
Both Michelle Meyer and Andrea Meyer canned two treys each in the first half as the duo accounted for 19 of the Lady Buccs' first half points.
With Allsion back on the floor to open the second half, Tri-Village again had some success, despite a long-range trey by Andrea Meyer to open the half. Allison responded by scoring six straight points, but was again forced to the bench after picking up her fourth foul with 5:36 left in the third.
The Lady Buccs couldn't take much of an advantage as they only connected on two baskets by Kristen Boggs in Allison's absence to maintain a 43-24 lead.
Allison returned in the closing minute of the third and connected on a short jumper. The Lady patriots then closed out the stanza with a trey by Krystal Barton to make the score 43-29 in favor of Covington.
The Lady Buccs took back the momentum for good in the opening minute of the fourth as Michelle Meyer and Andrea Meyer both drained jumpers.
After a pair of free throws by Kaley Stahl and Dill, the Meyer cousins drilled two straight treys to give Covington a 53-31 lead.
The Lady Buccs the outscored Tri-Village 8-5 the rest of the way to take a 61-36 win.
Leading Covington in the scoring column was Michelle Meyer with a game-high 22 points, including three baskets from behind the arc. Andrea Meyer connected on four treys and tallied 16 points.
Tri-Village was led by Tina Allison's 17 points and Kaley Stahl's 7 points.
Covington improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the CCC, while Tri-Village drops to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
On Saturday, Covington travels to Versailles and Tri-Village makes the trip to National Trail.
