December 3, 2005 – VERSAILLES
The Versailles Tigers found a chink in the armor of the Lady Buccs' defense and built an 11-0 lead before Covington could adjust.

Utilizing the height of 6'0" sophomore Justine Raterman, the Lady Tigers pounded the ball inside to score the first eleven points of the contest. Raterman only scored two buckets in the run, but she was able to kick the ball out to open shooters for two treys, one by Emily Bohman and the other by Megan Shardo.

Meanwhile, the Covington offense couldn't get anything going until Michelle Meyer found her way in for a lay-up with 2:57 left in the first.

Raterman then scored two more buckets to push the Versailles lead back to double digits, but baskets by Alex Christian, Michelle Meyer and a trey at the buzzer by Ashley Johnson closed the gap to 16-9.

Raterman opened the second quarter with two more baskets to push the Versailles lead to 20-9. Covington held Raterman in check the rest of the way by only allowing two baskets and a pair of free throws as the sophomore finished with 18 points.

The Lady Buccs found their offense and went on a 10-0 run to close the gap to 20-19 with 3:30 left in the half.

Alex Christian took advantage of Raterman being forced to the bench with her second foul by scoring six points in the run, while Meyer and Chelsea Tebbe accounted for the other four points to get Covington back into the game.

After a Versailles timeout, the Lady Tigers took the momentum right back with a three-pointer by Lynette Stauffer. Baskets by Syaley Reed and Kylee Schlater and and a free throw by Reed pushed the Lady Tiger lead to 28-19.

After a Michelle Meyer trey closed the gap to 28-22, Emily Bohman connected on four straight free throws to give the Lady Tigers a 32-22 half time lead.

Covington opened the second half with a long-range trey by Andrea Meyer, but Versailles ran off six straight points to increase its lead to 38-25.

Another trey by Andrea Meyer and a pair of free throws by Michelle Meyer followed to cut the margin to 41-30 midway through the third.

The remainder of the third period was back-and-forth as the score remained double digits in favor of the Lady Tigers, 51-36.

Covington applied more defensive pressure in the final stanza in an attempt to get back into the game. The strategy worked as the Lady Buccs held Versailles to just eight fourth quarter points.

Meanwhile, Michelle Meyer caught fire by scoring 13 of her game-high 26 points in the final stanza, including three treys.

With Meyer's heroics, Covington managed to cut the Versailles lead to 53-47 with 1:20 to play.

That was as close as the Lady Buccs could get despite a lay-in and a final trey by Michelle Meyer as Versailles connected on 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

To go along with Michelle Meyer's strong offensive showing, Alex Christian also had a solid night with 12 points.

Justine Raterman led Versailles with 18 points, while Emily Bohman dropped in 13 points.

Covington drops to 3-1 overall and hosts Bethel on Thursday in conference action.
