December 14, 2006 COVINGTON
After a brutal first two weeks of the season where it seemed like the Lady Buccs were playing every other night, a week long break was long overdue.
It was a chance to get the legs fresh and heal some battered bodies, most notably defensive standout Chelsea Tebbe, who has been on a bum ankle since the second game of the season against Fairlawn.
Fresh and fully healed, the Lady Buccs put on an impressive show by dismantling Ansonia at Covington High School on Thursday.
Covington received balanced scoring with three players scoring in double figures. Alex Christian scored a game-high 14 points, while Ashley Johnson knocked down 11 points and Andrea Meyer scored 10 points.
The Lady Buccs took control of the game from the outset, setting the tone defensively.
Ansonia managed just 3 first quarter points and 5 points for the entire first half.
Meanwhile, the Covington offense was steady, if not spectacular by scoring 11 points in each of the first two periods to take a 22-5 half time lead.
The Lady Buccs nearly matched their first half total of points in the first 8:00 of the second half. Covington scored 20 third period points, while holding Ansonia to just 2 points to increase the lead to 40-7.
With the game in hand, Covington rotated younger players in the line-up, but still cruised to a 5-20 win.
With the victory, Covington improves to 5-2 overall and remains at the top of the CCC standings at 3-0.
Ansonia drops to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Covington looks to keep the momentum going on Saturday as it travels to Bethel.
