If you like defense, you were in basketball heaven Saturday afternoon at Bethel High School as two teams with perfect conference records hooked up with significant conference implications on the line.
Known for its own defense, the Covington Lady Buccs found the going tough in the first half against a swarming Bethel defense.

Covington only managed six first half field goals, two coming from behind the arc by Andrea Meyer and Ashley Johnson. Meyer recorded 12 of Covington's 19 points in the half.
As it has done all season, the Lady Bucc "D" kept the game under control as Bethel only managed four first half field goals. Bethel did convert 4 of 7 free throws, including two at the end of the half to make the score 19-15 at the break.
Covington found its range in the third quarter with 16 points in the stanza. Alex Christian, who was held to just 2 first half points, exploded for 9 points in the third.
Andrea Meyer also hit on her second trey of the contest and Renee Otte scored a pair of baskets.
Meanwhile, the Lady Bucc "D" picked up the intensity, holding bethel to just two field goals in the period.
The Lady Bees' only other two points in the third came from the free throw line as Covington built a 35-21 lead with one quarter to play.
The game turned into a wrestling match as both teams combined to shoot 17 free throws in the final 8:00.
Covington converted on 7 of 8 from the line in the fourth, while Bethel managed to connect on 7 of 9 free throws down the stretch.
Meyer also connected on a jumper, while Christian scored on two lay-ups as Covington held off the Lady Bees for a 48-32 win.
Covington was led by Andrea Meyer with a game-high 19 points and Alex Christian with 17 points, 15 of those coming in the second half.
Bethel was led by Kenzie Klingenberg with 10 points, all coming in the second half.
