The Covington Lady Buccs have had a very nice run over the past four years, winning at least 20 games three straight years.
That was all in the Michelle Meyer era. Meyer, who is now playing at Dartmouth, scored 1560 career points and left as one of the best basketball players in school history.
Even with Meyer gone, the 2006-07 Lady Buccs have the firepower to continue the tradition of winning as all but one starter returns.
It will be a difficult challenge, however, as the schedule is packed with outstanding teams to overcome.
Covington opens the season at home against Houston and then travels for back-to-back road games at Fairlawn and Tipp City. The two road games could prove crucial as both teams have given Covington problems in the past.
The Lady Buccs close out November with a home game against rival Newton and hope to have some momentum heading into December.
They'll need it as the Lady Tigers from Versailles come to town on Saturday, December 2nd. Versailles returns numerous players from the team that handed Covington one of its four losses a year ago.
Three straight conference games follow with Tri-Village, Ansonia and Bethel before another big non-conference rivalry game against Russia on the 21st.
The Lady Buccs then close out 2006 with home games against Milton Union and the newest addition to the Cross County Conference, Miami East.
Covington returns to the road after the holiday break with a long trip to National Trail on January 4th.
Three straight home games follow. Beginning with an always tough New Bremen team, the Lady Buccs will look to gain more momentum for the stretch run. Twin Valley South and Arcanum follow New Bremen before three straight road games.
Covington begins its road stretch at Tri-County North and will follow with Bradford and Jackson Center in a span of five days.
Should the Lady Buccs remain in contention heading into the final week of the season, a match-up with Franklin Monroe would be huge. The Covington - Franklin Monroe contest has been significant over the past few years as each program has been near the top of the standings on a regular basis.
The Lady Buccs then close out the regular season on the road against Mississinawa Valley as they will look to head into the sectional tournament with confidence.
