December 29, 2007 – NEW BREMEN
It was a frustrating afternoon for the Covington Lady Buccs as they struggled putting the ball in the basket in a 45-19 loss at New Bremen, Saturday.

"It's the same old story," said Covington coach Chris Besecker in regards to his team's ineffectiveness on offense. "We had plenty off good looks, many of them right under the basket, but we can't seem to put the ball in the hole."

Covington started the contest with a trey by freshman Kayla Fissel, but didn't hit on a single field goal throughout the rest of the first half. The remaining four points of the first half came on four Renee Otte free throws as Covington found itself down 25-7 at the break.

"We're just struggling a lot on offensive," Besecker explained. "We had way too many turnovers that led to easy lay-ups for them. When you can't put points on the board and turn the ball over like we did today, it's tough to stay competitive."

To make matters worse for Covington, Shelby Hoblit sat most of the second period on the bench with three fouls.

"Shelby being in foul trouble is another thing that hurt us," Besecker said. "That takes away a lot of our inside game."

The Lady Buccs' offensive struggles continued in the third period as the lone Covington basket came on a Renee Otte lay-up.

New Bremen didn't light of the scoreboard itself, but was still able to increase the lead to 33-9 with one quarter to play.

"We didn't play bad defense today," said Besecker. "Like I said, they (New Bremen) got a lot of points off of turnovers. Defensively, we did alright."

Covington was finally able to find the bottom of the net in the fourth period by scoring 10 points in the stanza. Six of those came on treys by Otte and Fissel.

But it was too little, too late as Covington drops to 2-11 on the season and New Bremen improves to 9-2.

"They (New Bremen) are one of the better teams we've played," Besecker praised. "You have to be pretty good to have a 9-2 record playing in the MAC."

Renee Otte led Covington with a game-high 11 points. Kayla Fissel was the only other Covington player to score. She finished with 8 points.

Covington hosts Tri-County North next Thursday.
