JANUARY 22, 2009 - LEWISBURG
The education for a young Covington team continued Thursday at Tri-County North handed the Lady Buccs a 63-27 defeat.

Covington, playing without Shelby Hoblit and Renee Otte, couldn't get much going offensively in the first half - something the team has struggled with throughout the season. The Lady Buccs only managed to score nine points in the first half, all coming in the first quarter as they were held scoreless in the second frame.

Tri-County North, which improved to 10-3 overall, had little difficulty taking advantage of Covington mistakes and converting them into points.

The host Panthers built an 18-9 lead lead after one and increased the cushion to 30-9 at the break.

The third period was just as unkind to the Lady Buccs as Tri-County North outscored them 19-6 to push the margin to 49-15.

But there was no quit in the visiting team in the final stanza as Covington had its most successful offensive output of the game with 12 points.

Still, it wasn't enough to cut into the large deficit as the Panthers cruised to a 63-27 victory.

Freshman Shelby Kihm led the way for Covington with 11 points, while junior Alyssa Angle knocked down seven points.

Mallory Ullery paced Tri-County North with a game-high 15 points, while Rachel Heindl and Sarah Whitaker each scored 14 points in the contest.

Covington drops its eighth straight game and falls to 1-12 on the season. The Lady Buccs also drop to 1-5 in Cross County Conference action.

The Lady Buccs look to end their losing skid on Saturday as Twin Valley South comes to town.
