DECEMBER 6, 2008 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs were out gunned in every phase of the game in Saturday's non-conference match-up against the defending state champions, the Lady Tigers of Versailles.

Covington was out rebounded 36-15, turned the ball over 24 times and only connected on 5 of 33 from the floor in a 66-15 defeat.

Versailles jumped on Covington early as junior Megan Campbell scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the first period to lead the Lady Tigers to a 19-4 lead.

The visitors then increased the lead to 31-9 at the half as Covington could only connect on a Halley Roberts jumper and three of seven free throw attempts in the second period.

Versailles continued the half-court defensive pressure in the third and held Covington to just two second half field goals, one a Simon trey in the third and a short jumper in the fourth by Carrie Spurgeon. Simon's three-pointer was one of the eleven attempts behind the arc that went down for Covington in the contest.

Meanwhile, nearly the entire Versailles roster saw the floor and eight of the ten varsity players scored.

Emily Frey contributed with 13 points, while Bethany Ahrens came off the bench to knock down 10 points.

Covington went to the free throw line for ten attempts and connected on just four, while Versailles converted on 9 of 14 free throws in the game.

Versailles improves to 2-2 on the season, while Covington is still looking for its first win at 0-4.

The Lady Buccs host Newton on Thursday in Cross County Conference action.
