DECEMBER 1, 2016 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs continued their early season success under new coach Jim Meyer with a convincing 80-29 win over Twin Valley South on Thursday.

The win boosts Covington's record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the CCC, which is the first 4-0 start since the 2003-04 season when the Lady Buccs won their first eight games en route to a 22-3 record and a regional final appearance.

It is still early in the season and four games doesn't make a season, but so far Jim Meyer has his team playing very well together - sharing the basketball and giving maximum effort.

This was evident by the balanced scoring effort for Covington as ten players scored with five players finishing with double figures.

Jordan Crowell led Covington with a game-high 18 points, while Sammi Whitman had 14. Lexie Long and Addision Metz knocked down 11 points each, while sophomore Lauren Christian continued with 10 points.

Crowell and Metz combined for seven treys in the contest with Crowell hitting four of them and Metz connecting for three.

Covington took control of the game from the outset, jumping out to commanding 20-4 lead after one quarter of play and then pushing the advantage to 47-11 at the break.

In building the lead, Covington forced turnover after turnover andconverted the thefts into each transition points by pushing the ball up the floor.

When forced to settle into a half-court offense, Covington moved the ball with methodical precision until finding open shots from the perimeter and under the basket. Essentially, the Lady Buccs took what the defense gave.

With the outcome pretty much decided to start the second half, Coach Meyer used his bench - rotating fresh legs on the floor on a regular basis.

The results were the same as the Lady Buccs outscored Twin Valley South 17-6 to push the lead to 64-17 with one quarter to play.

The lone sluggish sequence in the contest came in the final frame when Twin Valley South pressed the Lady Buccs into mistakes that resulted into transition baskets.

But after a quick timeout by Meyer, corrected the issue and the Lady Buccs cruised to the 51-point win.

With its best start in 13 years, the Lady Buccs look to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday as an extremely talented and experienced Versailles team comes to town for a showdown at high noon.

New coach Jim Meyer has his team playing well together through four games.
